Tinsukia, February 14, 2020:

Amid ongoing preparations to host Filmfare awards in Guwahati, Assam, the State's Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has been shown black flags by the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) in Tinsukia district of Assam.

On Friday, the Chief Minister was shown the black flags by members of the Pengeri-Bordumsa unit of the AASU, who, along with locals waved black flags at the CM as a mark of protest against the CM for the BJP's implementation of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

The display of black flags took place at Inthem Nagapathar in Tinsukia district. According to our reports, several Ministers and MLAs were also confronted with black flags by the agitators.

It may be mentioned that the CM has been targeted by the anti-CAA brigade for his "silence" over the implementation of the CAA. "He has shoved the jati towards its destruction and we are protesting him with black flags. We warn CM Sonowal and the Assam as well as State Governments that the CAA would not be accepted at any cost. We are prepared to give our blood, but this Act shall not be accepted at any cost", said an AASU member.

The Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 passed by the Parliament of India on 11 December 2019. It amended the Citizenship Act of 1955 by providing a path to Indian citizenship for illegal migrants belonging to minority communities from Bangladesh, Afganistan, and Pakistan.
