GUWAHATI: The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has cancelled the Higher Secondary (HS) first year exams due to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.

According to a notification released by the council dated May 7, all students who filled out online application forms for the first year have been promoted to the second year.

The exams were previously scheduled to begin on May 4, but were postponed due to a significant increase in COVID-19 cases.

The order issued by AHSEC controller of examinations Pankaj Borthakur read: “The Higher Secondary First Year Examination, 2021 scheduled to be held from 04/05/2021 which was postponed has now been cancelled and all the students, who have filled up online applications for the same are hereby declared to have been promoted to the HS 2nd Year Class for the academic session 2021-2022."

Meanwhile, exams for classes 10 and 12 have been postponed, and the government has yet to make an announcement about the suspension of examinations.
