Assam: Kokrajhar Durga Puja grabs eyeballs for adorning goddess with traditional 'Aronai'

Kokrajhar: After a Durga Puja in Dhing in Assam grabbed eyeballs by draping the goddess in Assamese 'mekhla chadar', the traditional Aronai and Phulam Gamocha have been used to dress the Gods and Goddesses at the puja mandap of former BTC executive member Rajib Brahma's residence puja celebration in Kokrajhar town.

Like the previous years, this year too, family members of Rajib Brahma organized the Durga Puja at his residential complex at JD Road near the Indian Oil depot in Kokrajhar town. The puja at the residence of the former EM has become the talk of the town with the display of the traditional garbs.

Earlier today, the family of Rajib Brahma and devotees offered their prayers and worship to the Goddess Durga on the day of Maha Saptami today during the Durga Puja celebration. Maha Saptami marks the beginning of the battle between Maa Durga and evil Mahisasura.

Jyotika Brahma, the wife of the former EM said that the family has been organizing the Durga Puja at their residence for several years and praying for integration of the masses.

She said that pundits bussed in from Dhubri and Guwahatifrom Assam are performing puja activities for the 'integration of society.'

"Idols of Goddess Durga Devi and statues are dressed up traditional attires -- Aronai and Phulam Gamocha -- which are our state's identify and culture of the indigenous peoples," she said.

Ram Pande, a pundit from Dhubri in Assam said that the Durga idol was designed with traditional Aronai and Phulam Gamocha to offer warm welcome and respect to the devotees thronging the puja venue.

Meanwhile, the BTC region's Akhil Hindivashi Vikash Parishad has kickstarted Navaratri celebrations at Mahesh Mandir in Kokrajhar since Wednesday to offer prayers and worship to the Goddess.

Secretary of the Parishad Ranjit Mahato said that the Vikash Parishad organised the Navaratri during the ongoing Durga Devi celebration."
"We are offering prayers and worship to the Goddess Durga Devi for deliverance from the coronavirus", he said.

The celebrations of the much-awaited Durga Puja have officially started across India. This time Maa Durga is being worshipped amid strict COVID norms. Today is Maha Saptami, the seventh day of Durga Puja.
