Assam: Massive Indigenous 'War Cry' against CAA in Tinsukia

Tinsukia, January 24, 2020:

Continuing its roar against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) led a chorus of voices in Tinsukia, Assam decrying the contentious legislation.

Several indigenous bodies as well as bhakats (Vaishnavite ascetics native to Assam) were also seen actively participating in the protest and registering protest against the CAA.

With a few days left till the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, the public of the Northeast Indian state continue to hold rallies and protests to oppose the controversial amendment of the Citizenship Act by the BJP-led NDA Government.

One of the prominent voices taking on the BJP-led state government for including Assam in the CAA is Lurinjyoti Gogoi, general secretary of the All Assam Students Union (AASU), appealed the people to oppose the legislation at all costs and stated that the protests must continue until the BJP-led Centre rolls back the controversial Act.

It is to be mentioned here that the CJI, heading a bench hearing several petitions against the CAA, has said that Assam and Tripura matters will be clubbed together to be dealt with separately. It has also been reported that the Centre is mulling extending the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to Assam in a bid to quell the mass uprisings across the region.
