A battalion of the Assam Rifles Battalion successfully foiled an attempt by miscreants (likely Under-ground) to perpetrate an untoward incident in the run up to Independence Day, 2019, by recovering a large quantity of explosives.
In the view of the heightened security situation leading to Independence Day 2019, the Assam Rifles Battalion had deployed a number of troops along the Indo-Myanmar Border to prevent any untoward action by the underground workers.
On the night of August 3, one of the teams detected and prevented the movement of likely underground workers into Indian Territory from Myanmar. However, the underground workers managed to escape.
A deliberate search operation was carried out the next day wherein a large cache of war like stores which include four Chinese made hand grenades, 21 locally made unmarked hand grenades, one mine, 29 detonators and 12 kilos of gelatine, was recovered by the Assam Rifles.
The recovered items have been handed over to police for further investigation.
The activity seemed likely to be an attempt by underground workers to perpetrate a major incident of terror in Manipur in the run up to Independence Day, 2019.
Meanwhile, the situation along the bordering areas continues to be tense after the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir.
