Guwahati, March 17, 2019:

Election time is near which means that the publicity teams of the political parties are also in overdrive devising political gimmicks meant to win over the hearts of the public.

Rahul Gandhi’s jibe against Modi ‘chowkidar hi chor hai’ (the watchman himself is the thief) had caught on in both political and non-political circles due to its punchy nature and even supporters of the BJP were lauding the Congress President for his clever play on words.

Now, to defend the BJP party from the scathing attacks of Rahul and co, the BJP publicity team has come up with a trend on Twitter called #MainBhiChowkidar. Modi has even added a prefix of ‘Chowkidar’ to his name on Twitter in commitment towards the gimmick.

The trend was first given steam when Modi posted a 3-minute video on his official Twitter handle which shows the Prime Minister delivering speeches as a song ‘Haan, main bhi chowkidar hoon’ plays in the background. In fact, the BJP has unveiled ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’ merchandise to woo the voters.

Rahul Gandhi has again fired back at the Prime Minister and posted on Twitter: “A defensive tweet Mr Modi! You feeling a little guilty today,” and posted pictures of controversial businessmen associated with the Modi administration such as Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya with the words ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar’.

Meanwhile, to show solidarity with their leader, many BJP leaders like Yogi Adityanath as well as Assam’s Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma have added the prefix of ‘Chowkidar’ to their names in Twitter. One thing is for sure, the Twitter battles will get more heated as we inch closer to the elections.
