The National Democratic Alliance government has increased the allocation for eight states of northeast India to Rs. 50,169.39 crore in the Union Budget 2019-20, which is the highest ever allocation of funds for this region!
This is also a significant increase since the allocation of budget in the previous year, 2018-19 was only Rs. 39,201 crore.
Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal termed the budget as "pro people" and "pro poor", adding that it will felicitate 'women empowerment' in the region.
Terming it a 'green budget', Sonowal said that under the budget electric vehicles will be cheaper to protect the environment.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma too expressed his satisfaction with the budget. The Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma has termed the Union Budget 2019 as “balanced” and “positive”.
While Rs 4105 Crore is allocated to Oil IndiaNSE -2.36 % Limited for exploration and production, Rs 755 Crore is allocated for MSME sector. The allocation of road development project is pegged at Rs 6210 Crore.
Meanwhile, the budget has been lauded for its emphasis on education. The Government has resolved to launch a 'Study in India' programme to attract foreign students in higher education. Moreover, the central Government intends to spend Rs. 400 crores to create world class educational institutions in the upcoming few years.
