According to the latest figures, the number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 7,529 and 242 deaths have been reported so far.
At the same time, Maharashtra has also extended the period of lockdown till April 30. Meanwhile, the State health minister Rajesh Tope Lockdown in Maharashtra could be extended beyond April 30 if people do not observe social distancing properly. Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in Mumbai has gone up to 1182, 61% of all cases in the State. Maharashtra has reported 1761 cases of the virus.

Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao said lockdown in the state will continue till 30 April. The total number of cases in the South Indian state is 503, while death count is at 14.
In Delhi, where the controversial Tablighi Jamaat congregation took place, the number of cases has reaches 1069, up from 903 yesterday. Five more deaths were reported on Saturday, taking the toll to 19.
Thirty-six new cases of coronavirus were found in Gujarat on Saturday evening, taking the tally to 468, PTI quotes Gujarat health officials as saying. The toll rose to 22 with three new COVID-19 deaths.
Meanwhile, Kerala CM Pinnarayi Vijayan has confirmed that his state has reported 373 confirmed cases, of which 228 are active.
In Northeast India, no new cases were reported. Yesterday, an Assam man aged 65 died due to complications from the disease, which is the first death in the region. The latest case has been reported from the State of Tripura.
It may be mentioned here that the next 3-4 weeks will be critical to determine the impact of steps taken till now to curb spread of the virus, Prime MInister Narendra Modi told chief ministers on COVID-19 fight, said a press release issued by the Centre.
Narendra Modi's meeting with Chief Ministers regarding extension of lockdown on Saturday, Delhi cheif minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, "PM has taken correct decision to extend lockdown."
"Today, India’s position is better than many developed countries because we started lockdown early. If it is stopped now, all gains would be lost. To consolidate, it is imp to extend it," he added.
Several states' CMs have requested the PM to extend the lockdown period which is seen as a way to curb the spread of the deadly virus. The Goan CM, Pramod Sawant, has confirmed that he wants to lockdown extended.
In the meantime, more states including Odisha, Telangana, Chhattisgarh made it mandatory for people to wear masks or face covers at public places, while enforcement was beefed up for action against those violating the lockdown conditions.

Worldometers reports that 1,735,719 people have been affected by the coronavirus till date, and 106,558 people have died. The United States has reported 508,126 cases and 19,827 deaths, the highest of any country. Italy has recorded 152,271 cases and a total of 19,468 deaths.
