FIR lodged against Khairul Islam for translating Assam “State Anthem” in Miya Language

Guwahati, July 5, 2019:
An FIR has been lodged against Khairul Islam at the Dispur Police Station for translating the state anthem “O Mur Apunar Dekh” into Miya language based on the reports published by Inside Northeast.
In the FIR, it has been stated, “The song ‘O Mur Apunar Dekh’ written by the great Assamese personality and celebrated pioneer of modern Assamese literature, Lakshminath Bezbaruah got recommended in the Constitution of India as the state anthem. And As per the constitutional law, disrespecting anything recognized as national or same status is a serious criminal offence. On the other hand, there is no ‘Miya’ language recognized by the Indian Constitution.”
It added, “It is an insult to the Assam’s literary icon Lakshminath Bezbaruah along with entire race of Assamese people.”
The complainant, Pranabjit Doloi demanded immediate action against Khairul Islam under the Copy Right Act and as per the rule set by the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Speaking to Inside Northeast, Pranabjit Doloi who is a senior journalist said, “Miya is an Urdu word which is used to address someone in respect. There is no language called Miya. Going through the report of Inside Northeast, I decided to lodge an FIR of the translator Khairul Islam. This is a serious crime; no one has the copyright to translate state or national anthem. This is also an insult to Lakshminath Bezbaruah.”

Moreover, Doloi questioned on why the regional bodies like the AASU, AJYCP, state cabinet ministers are numb over the issue. He said if the FIR do not serve to the purpose, he will reach out to the Gauhati High Court for legal action into the matter.
