Fantastic news for football lovers as it has finally been confirmed that Guwahati will play host to India's first World Cup qualifying match for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
India will play against fellow Asian country Oman at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Assam Football Association led by its president Naba Doley called on CM Sarbananda Sonwal and reviewed the preparations for the upcoming FIFA WC qualifying match.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to be the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international men's association football championship contested by the national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Qatar in 2022.
It will be held from 21 November, 2022 – Sunday, 18 December, 2022, and 32 teams will participate in the premier event. It may be mentioned that the 2018 edition of the World Cup was won by host nation France, who defeated Croatia in the final.
The 2022 edition of the cup will be unique as this will mark the first World Cup not to be held in May, June, or July; the tournament is instead scheduled for late November until mid-December.[4] It is to be played in a reduced timeframe of around 28 days, with the final being held on 18 December 2022, which is also Qatar National Day.
