Heroin worth Rs 1.47 crore seized in Manipur; 2 arrested

IMPHAL: Manipur Police today seized heroin worth Rs 1.47 crore in the gray market and arrested two persons at Kakching district of the state.

According to the police, the duo was apprehended after they tried to escape on being asked to stop for frisking at the Kuraopokpi police patrol post.

The heroin was being reportedly smuggled to capital Imphal from the Moreh border.

A case has been registered against the accused and further investigation is underway.

It needs mention here that drugs worth Rs 20 lakhs were seized from Imphal East district and two people were arrested on March 3 this year.

The Moreh border is often used as a transit route for smuggling of illegal items to India.

Drugs, electronic goods and even arms find their way to the country through this route.
