NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) today extended the existing coronavirus detection, containment, and caution guidelines till March 31.
"While there has been a substantial decline in the active and new Covid-19 cases, there is a need to maintain surveillance, containment, and caution to fully overcome the pandemic," the government said in a release.
"While the active and new Covid-19 cases have declined significantly, monitoring, containment and caution must be maintained to completely resolve the pandemic," said the government in the release issued by MHA.
To break the chain of virus transmission, all states and the Union Territories are advised to speed up the vaccination of the target population.

Containment zones continue to be cautiously demarcated. Within these areas, recommended containment measures are strictly followed and Covid-appropriate behaviour is being promoted and strictly enforced, stated in the release.
The Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) recommended for the different approved activities were followed carefully. Therefore, as envisaged in the guidelines released on January 27, 2021, the focused approach on monitoring, containment and full adherence with the SOPs must be strictly implemented by the States and the Union Territories, the release added.
The announcement comes after India recorded 16,577 fresh Covid-19 cases today.
The infection tally of the country went up to 11,063,491. Number of death due to COVID-19 stands at 156,825. While the vaccination mark has reached 13,472,643.
