Former Assam DGP and newly-elected Assam Sahitya Sabha President Kuladhar Saikia has joined the long list of litterateurs and artistes opposed to the amendment of the Citizenship Act, that was recently rammed through both Houses of Parliament by BJP-majorities.
Saikia, upon being asked about the contentious issue of the Citizenship Amendment Act, told the media, "I have seen protests are being held against the Citizenship Amendment Act. Nobody can support this Act. The opinion is loud and clear -- nobody can support this legislation. In this regard, the Assam Sahitya Sabha has also launched numerous campaigns -- that can be seen on the media."
Earlier, on December 2, DGP Kuladhar Saikia was elected as the 103rd president of the Assam Sahitya Sabha with a comprehensive margin of victory.
