Guwahati, December 28, 2019:

Tarun Gogoi, the longest reigning Chief Minister of Assam, in yet another jibe at the rival BJP camp, has produced evidence that India does indeed have 'detention camps' to keep suspected illegal migrants. Meanwhile, Gogoi has stated that the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh must be sent back to their country of origin.

This comes in the wake of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pronouncement that 'there are no detention camps or centres in India', during a massive rally at New Delhi's 'Ramlila Maidan'.

Gogoi claims that detention camps were first ordered to be built during the reign of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the first BJP Prime Minister. "When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister, his Government had instructed all the concerned state Governments and Union Territories in 1998 to have a detention camp for keeping foreigners who completed their terms of imprisonment in jail. His Government had instructed all the state governments to construct such a detention camp", Gogoi alleged.

To further drive home his point, the 3-time Chief Minister uploaded a document on Facebook, where it was informed that the State Governments had constructed detention camps in pursuance of Home Ministry orders.

Meanwhile, Gogoi contends that there is no need for detention camps or Citizenship Law for the Bangladeshis and they should be sent back to their country of origin instead.
