Sikkim reports 8 more COVID deaths in 24 hours

GANGTOK: Sikkim in the past 24 hours reported 101 fresh cases of COVID-19  and eight more deaths related to the infection.

With the news cases being reported during the period, the state's tally of COVID cases has reached up to 13233 while, with the new fatalities the death toll has risen up to 232.

The new cases include 26 from the East district, 69 in the West district, 4 in the South district, and two in the North district.

Sikkim currently has 3184 active cases of the infection and a total of 9605 patients have recovered so far.

Recently, the Sikkim High Court has urged the state government to take all necessary steps to augment its resources to meet the present situation of the COVID-19 pandemic on a “war footing”.

Furthermore, the state government has extended the ongoing lockdown in the state till May 31 in view of the COVID-19 surge.
