Guwahati, March 19, 2019:

A Chinese pangolin has been recovered on Monday by Assam State forest department and wildlife crime bureau late at night at Rajapara in Kamrup District.

The authorities successfully recovered the pangolin and nabbed two smugglers, Grimith Sangma from Meghalaya and Brajen Rabha from Garchuk, and a Hyundai Santro car with the help of specific input.

The Pangolin was handed over to the Assam State Zoo last night. According to the forest officials, the Pangolin weighs 8 kgs and its black market value is about Rs. 5 lakh.

It is to be mentioned that The Chinese pangolin is one of eight species of pangolins. All eight of these shy and secretive mammals are facing moderate to severe population scarcity in recent times. Asian pangolin species, especially the Chinese pangolin and the Sunda pangolin are the most endangered of all the pangolin species.
