Speeding Bus Rams into Truck in Jharkhand, 11 Dead

Hazaribagh, June 10, 2019:

Altogether 11 people died and 25 got injured after a speeding bus rammed into a truck following a brake failure on Monday morning at NH-2 near Hazaribagh in Jharkhand.

According to media reports the double-decker bus was running at a very high speed of over 100 km per hour and the brakes were not working.

Though the bus driver tried to control the speeding bus but it rammed into a truck coming from the opposite side.

The lower deck of the bus got completely damaged and the passengers were pulled out from the bus after the accident, the media report said.

Police have visited the accident site with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) team earlier as well.

The spot has been declared as a ‘Black Spot’ because at least 150 people have died in a road accident in last six months on the same spot.

Few of the injured passengers are said to be in a critical condition and they have been shifted to Ranchi for further treatment.

The bus was going to Masauree in Patna district from Ranchi.

Road deaths in India increased to nearly 1.49 lakh in 2018. Uttar Pradesh registered the maximum spike in fatalities. While UP saw its road deaths count increase by more than 2,000 last year over 2017, Tamil Nadu recorded the maximum decline in fatalities, of almost 25%.

The southern state saw 3,941 fewer road deaths last year than the year before.

The increase in road fatalities comes as bad news considering that in 2017

the country had registered a 3% decrease in road deaths, from 1.51 lakh in

2016 to 1.48 lakh.

The Centre and state governments were hoping to maintain the downward trend in the number of road accident deaths.
