The South Tripura district organization has tightened up security arrangements in the district and also increased force deployment in the borders in order to put a check on any illegal border intrusion, a highly placed source of the South Tripura district said.
“As soon as a number of Covid 19 cases have been reported in the district, the administration has started taking strong exception to the cases related to flouting lockdown norms and health protocols. The border area has been sealed off and additional BSF jawans have been deployed in the areas identified to be most sensitive as far as border crimes are concerned”, the source told this reporter.
Minister Pranajit Singha Roy, who has been entrusted with the job to look after the South Tripura district, had recently paid a visit. Every now and then meetings were being convened by the District Magistrate to have a fair enough idea of the prevailing situation. The Chief Medical Officer was also visiting spots and discussing ground situations with the health staff posted in the ground.
“BSF Battalion 200 and 31 have been given additional duty in the border areas. In the night shifts, the bootfalls have been increased to prevent any invasion. The minority dominated area such as Amjad Nagar and Matai of Belonia sub-division have been identified as highly sensitive zones. Deployment of forces equipped with state of the art gadgets has been increased there. Some additional postings have also been given in Munda slum, Barapathari, Belonia and Hrishyamukh to prevent any eventuality”, a highly placed source in the BSF said.

“Moreover”, the BSF sources added, “Areas like Samarganja, Natunbazar, Madhabnagar, Natunbazar, Chitabari, Habratali and Amlighat which come under the jurisdiction of BSF 31 Battalion are infamous for trans-border crime. The BSF has increased deployment in these areas for better management of the borders”.
Notably, only a few days back, scuffle broke out between BSF and smugglers at Srinagar area and a specific case was lodged with the Manubazar police station.
