AGARTALA: A woman, a mother, a terminated teacher of Tripura committed suicide moments after pouring sulphuric acid in the mouth of her one-year-old son in the Ampura area of Khowai amid an ongoing sit-in demonstration for the past 34 days seeking an alternative livelihood.
30-year-old Rumi Debbarma had reportedly consumed sulphuric acid in the afternoon after pouring one spoonful of acid in the mouth of her son Ayan Debbarma, who had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
Rumi's dead body was found by her 6-year-old daughter who found her mother lying on the floor. The face of her brother was also burnt. The duo was immediately rushed to the hospital, with Rumi being pronounced dead there.
Dinesh Debbarman, the dead woman's husband, was not at home during the incident, informed Rumi's father Rabi Debbarma.

On the other hand, police claimed that they found a five-page note in Kokborok (tribal dialect) in the deceased's house, which indicated that she was not happy with her marital life as her husband was having an 'affair'.

Meanwhile, the agitating teachers have alleged that Rumi committed suicide because of her bleak future. This is the second incident of suicide of among teachers terminated during the ongoing agitation.
