Won’t compromise on the “World Heritage Site” title: AATASU

Guwahati, October 22, 2018:

Based on the complaint filed by All Assam Tai Ahom Students’ Union (AATASU) to the Distict Administration on illegal construction at the Shiva Dol in Sivasagar, the district administration has demolished the newly constructed pillars on Monday.

Speaking to InsideNe, AATASU vice-president Basanta Gogoi said, “There were only three dols in Sivsagar: Joy Dol, Devi Dol and Shive dol from the origin, no new construction was allowed as per the Archaeological Act and the AATASU has been demanding for these three dols to be included in the World Heritage Site. However the Archaeological department gave the norms that no new construction should take place in order to include the three dols into heritage sites but few influential people have started some construction. On that we gave 24 hrs to the administration to sort out the matter and accordingly the construction was shut down.”

He added that based on the complaint two people namely Srikrishna Agarwala, local businessmen and Tingkhu Soliha, member of Central Committee of Lachit Bir Sena. A complaint has filed against the Dol Development Committe by six organizations which the investigation is goin on.
