Patricia Mukhim, senior Editor of The Shillong Times, while speaking at the 2nd annual Inside Northeast Youth Conclave lamented the state of affairs, as the media is now afraid to pose tough questions to the establishment.

Speaking to the young audience, Mukhim rued that the people are afraid to question the status quo, and even children are not being taught to ask questions. "When I go to visit media institutes, we see there is no questioning. They are asked to not pose questions either to the big media houses or the Government. That is not how media works, and it's ideals", Mukhim explained.

The Shillong Times Editor said that in this age of a changing mediascape, the old players like her newspaper are trying to adapt to the new age by foraying into the digital platform.
Mikhim further added that the social media molding the functioning of traditional platforms as well."We do follow social media trends. Some stories come from nondescript sources, which needs to be followed. Social media is not always a bad thing. Because this helps in putting out our emotions", she said.
Agreeing with her, Kartikeya Sharma of Wion, said, "Everyone wants to know story in 6 lines/one headline. That's where the problem of journalism is. The whole business model is changing because now media has to relate to social traffic."
