In a tribute to the heroes of the 1962 Battle of Walong, the Indian Army successfully completed a 550-kilometer motorcycle expedition through the challenging landscapes of eastern Arunachal Pradesh. Marking the 62nd Walong Day, the three-day journey brought soldiers and local enthusiasts together, reinforcing the bravery and endurance of those who defended India's northeastern borders over six decades ago.

The expedition team, comprising 20 riders from the Indian Army and local adventure enthusiasts, embarked on this commemorative journey from Dibang Valley on November 9. Covering diverse terrain, the team traversed Roing, Tezu, and the vibrant village of Hayuliang before reaching the historic Walong War Memorial. The participants’ arrival at the memorial was marked with a solemn tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Walong against Chinese forces.

Throughout their journey, the riders braved rugged mountainous trails and fluctuating weather conditions, embodying the spirit and resilience of the soldiers who once defended this frontier. The expedition was more than just a physical challenge; it symbolized the unwavering dedication and unity of the Indian armed forces and their commitment to safeguarding the nation.

The event also fostered camaraderie with local communities, who gathered along the route to support and encourage the riders. The Indian Army and the residents of these areas continue to share a strong bond, united by a shared respect for the history and legacy of the 1962 battle.

This year’s Walong Day celebrations were especially poignant, as the expedition brought renewed attention to the sacrifices made at Walong, where Indian troops held their ground with limited resources against an advancing adversary. The motorbike journey concluded with a ceremonial flag-in at the Walong War Memorial, where the riders laid wreaths in memory of the fallen heroes.
