Itanagar Municipal Corporation begins initiative for beautification of city

ITANAGAR: Amid the boom in COVID-19 positive cases in Itanagar, the Municipal Corporation Mayor has requested citizens not to turn isolated places into garbage dumping grounds.

This year, the newly formed Itanagar Municipal Corporation got a Mayor and a deputy mayor with the purpose of making the city spanking clean.

Mayor Tame Phassang urged denizens of the capital complex not to litter their garbage on the roadside. Expressing his dismay over the continuous littering of garbage in open in every colony, he urged citizens to dump the garbage in the vehicles assigned for the purpose.

Mayor urged citizens of Itanagar to cooperate and make Itanagar the cleanest city by maintaining hygiene and cleanliness.

Team IMC has sanitized public and government institutions such as police stations, hospitals, pharmacies, banks, and places of worship. All sectors and colonies will also be sanitized with the support of our corporators, ward members, and committee member.

"An environment of equality, peace, and harmony should be our agenda, and if each one of us maintains this mantra, Itanagar would be one of the best capitals in the country," said the Mayor.

It needs mention here that Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal, has been ranked 7th among the 10 dirtiest cities of the country in the category of below 10 lakh population in the Swachh Survekshan 2020.

Other cities which found a place in the list of dirtiest cities from the Northeast region are Shillong in Meghalaya (6th) and Dimapur in Nagaland (8th).

This is the fifth edition of the annual cleanliness survey of the country carried out by the central government. This year, a total of 4,242 cities were surveyed within 28 days. Feedback from 1.9 crore citizens was collected for the completely paperless survey.

The survey focused on the collection of segregated waste and maintenance till processing site, treatment and reuse of wastewater, curtailing solid waste-based air pollution, among other factors.

Meanwhile, Covid-19 cases continue to increase with the state reporting 443 fresh cases on Friday, with 204 of them being symptomatic. The ICR reported the highest number of Covid-19 cases (112), followed by Lohit (42) and Lower Subansiri (36).

With 21 percent, Kurung Kumey district bordering China reported the highest positivity rate in the state. The ICR reported a positivity rate of 16 percent.

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday assured to allocate necessary funds for all the development projects being undertaken by the ICR. Phassang has sought funds for the construction of a solid waste management plant, proper drainage system, multi-level car parking in various locations of the ICR.
