Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday stated that the emergence of a sporting culture in the Northeastern States is a must if the youths are to be stopped from straying down a dark path.
While interacting with Inside Northeast during a felicitation ceremony of medal-winning female boxers in New Delhi, Rijiju said, "We are absolutely clear that there will be huge development of sports culture in Northeastern region also. This will ensure that the youths do not go in the wrong direction."
Rijiju also warned that if the energy of the youths of the region is not utilized, they will become a "burden".

"Those youths who take guns, throw bombs, pistols, violence, this will stop, and for that, we have to make the younger generation play sports. Do a good jonb. Do something for the country. We will do it"", Rijiju added.
The West Arunachal MP also assured that the sportspersons will be given "respect" and ensure that their futures are secure.

The Union Minister also assured that the insurgency in the region will cease and stated that "peace to the region will come through sports and other developmental activities."
"Sports must create employment, sports must create revenue, sports is a way of life", the Arunachal BJP firebrand told a gathering of mediapersons here.
