Arunachal Boys Hostel in Shillong in dilapidated condition, students demand immediate renovation

Lack of proper hygiene, inadequate water facilities, and absence of proper electric fittings with proper safety is the present scenario of the oldest complex of the Arunachal Boys hostel building at Shillong below the office of the deputy resident commissioner of NEFA building.

Students demanded immediate renovation of the lone boy's hostel at Shillong the capital city of Meghalaya.

Nabam Radhe, who is the Prefect of Arunachal boys hostel informed that this boy's hostel was established in 1998 as before it was the Secretariat building of the then NEFA North Eastern Frontier Agency.

Before there were no law colleges in Arunachal, so to pursue a career in the field of law seniors 1998 converted the ground floor into a boy's hostel as this is the property of the Government of Arunachal.

Since 1998, the condition of this hostel is pathetic informed Nbam Radhe as many walls are full of fungus due to lack of ventilation & many more.

There is no renovation work done for three years despite the demands forwarded by the occupant students to the leaders while they visit Shillong for their trip.

Water supplied to the students is full of iron as boring water is not fit for drinking or washing purposes. About seventy students are staying in this hostel at present.

Tam Lomdak, Vice President of ASUS Arunachal Shillong Students Union talking to Indiatoday Ne expressed his resentment over the dilapidated condition of this boy's hostel,
Lomdak informed that this building is since the NEFA times, Deputy Residental Officer's office above the building is renovated from time to time but this hostel has been neglected for a long time.

The first two floors of this building have been given on lease to ITBP while one State Transport booking counter also is situated in the same complex near the hostel.

The renovation work of Arunachal Bhawan Shillong is also going on at a very slow pace and it comes under the capital PWD division Itanagar, Government of Arunachal Pradesh.

Ministers and officers use to stay in luxurious hotels of Shillong, so they ignore the Arunachal Bhawan Shillong claimed by ASUS Vice President.

Maximum students staying here are from a poor background and the maximum are pursuing Law in colleges of Shillong.

Lomdak demanded the government renovate the hostel by doing proper partitioning and also properly checking electrical wiring fittings as it could spark a big fire mishap someday.

to serve the commuters who earlier wait for catching Govt bus which is now shifted to ISBT Shillong.
