Arunachal: Leparada district ranks sixth in country in implementing Jal Jeevan Mission

In a moment of pride for the region, Arunachal Pradesh's Leparada district has ranked as the sixth district among all the districts in the country in the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) projects. 

Leparada, while scoring the sixth position in all over the country, has been ranked as the top district in the implementation of JJM schemes. 

Basar constituency MLA Gokar Basar along with officials attended the celebration event today and felicitated the Best performing field staffs who implemented the Jal Jeewan Mission scheme is the Leparada district properly and made it the number one district in the entire state.

As per the PHED officials, 125 schemes of JJM got sanctioned in Leparada district and 81 villages got covered with 161 habitations and 3,211 houses as of now have got covered in the district. 

"I want to credit Prime Minsiter Modi for this as he launched this mission and benefitted the entire nation as well as Arunachal and our Leparada district. Till August 2019, there were water problems here in our district and the entire state. Because of this the JJM was started in the country. Our of 22 districts, my district has been given the number on rank. I want to give credit to our PM, our CM Pema Khandu and our entire PHED department. I want to credit our panchayat committees and other bodies who have worked for the implementation of the schemes. In 2023 also our district was given the status of the fastest moving district in entire Northeast. Now in the entire country, Leparada is in sixth position. This is a milestone for us," said MLA Gokar Basar.

Last year the Leparada district has achieved the third rank among the fastest moving districts in the achievers category for the period from 1 October, 2022 to 31 March, 2023, under the Jal Jeevan Survekshan by the Union Jal Shakti Ministry. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the mission on August 15, 2019 with the aim to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024.

The state government has provided functional household tap connections (FHTC) in almost all the villages of the district under the JJM, ending the daily hardship of fetching water which was faced by the women, she added.

Leparada district was created by bifurcating Lower Siang district in 2018. It has an approximate population of 25,000 odd people residing in Basar, Tirbin Sago and Dari circles, covering 81 villages.

Besides, 408 FHTCs were sanctioned under the National Rural Drinking Water Programme and another 914 were provided in the district so far as per the budget, the official said.
