A mini marathon was held in Arunachal's Itanagar with hundreds of participants under the theme 'Run for Clean Itanagar'. The marathon commenced from the Itanagar Municipal Corporation office and concluded at Indira Gandhi Park.
The event which was held as part of the 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign launched across the state, also saw the participation of national award winning athlete Jyoti Mane. During the event, Mane clinched the first position amongst women racers.
Speaking to media persons, Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation, Tamme Phassang stated that this marathon is a culmination of a week-long campaign which will also feature essay competitions, tree plantation and social cleanliness drives.
Mayor Phassang also highlighted the significance of cleanliness and waste management, stressing that the Swachh Bharat Mission, launched in 2014, has now reached its 10th anniversary.
The tree plantation initiative, conducted under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign, aims to contribute to environmental conservation and a healthier ecosystem, he said, further urging the staff of Itanagar Municipal Corporation for their active support in the initiative.
