Arunachal minister on Indigenous Faith Day: "Intrinsic cultural diversity has to be maintained"

Indigenous Faith Day was observed across Arunachal Pradesh today, with tribal communities reaffirming their commitment to preserving their rich cultural and spiritual heritage. The celebrations, organized under the aegis of the Indigenous Faith & Culture Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP), featured vibrant processions, community prayers, and cultural programs at Rono Ground, Doimukh.

Home and Indigenous Affairs Minister Mama Natung graced the occasion, marking the day that coincides with the birth anniversary of Talon Rukbo, the revered founder of the Indigenous Faith Movement in the state. Speaking at the event, Natung underscored the importance of safeguarding Arunachal's diverse traditions. "Learning other languages is not wrong, but we must not lose sight of our own languages, culture, and traditions, as they are integral to our identity," he remarked.

The minister also advocated for greater inter-community cultural exchanges, urging communities to invite cultural teams during festivals to promote mutual understanding and respect.

Indigenous Faith Day, celebrated annually on December 1, highlights the spiritual and cultural practices of Arunachal Pradesh's tribal communities, many of whom follow the 'Donyi Polo' faith, worshiping the Sun and Moon. As modernization sweeps through the region, the day serves as a vital reminder of the state’s cultural roots and a celebration of its unique heritage.
