Arunachal MLA applauds youth-centric budget, envisions state as emerging leader in tourism sector

Arunachal Pradesh is poised to become the top destination in the tourism sector, especially in its border regions with China, according to local MLA Pani Taram. Taram praised the recent budget presented by the Pema Khandu government, highlighting its focus on youth development through education, employment, and skill enhancement.

The 2024-25 budget, amounting to Rs 35,840 crore, dedicates over Rs 2,000 crore to education, marking it as the "Year of Youths." This strategic allocation underscores the state's commitment to addressing immediate needs while laying the groundwork for a prosperous future.

Representing the 21st Koloriang constituency, Taram commended the government's forward-looking approach, particularly in rural and hilly regions like Arunachal. Emphasizing the significance of the budget for youth in border districts, he highlighted the area's vast 1,080 km border with China, including his own constituency in Kurung Kumey district, known for its stunning natural beauty and five international passes: Lurugh, Darmu, Chingpula, and Tutenla.

Taram noted that the new tourism policy, which supports the development of homestays in rural border towns, is expected to boost the tourism industry and generate significant revenue for the government. He remarked that the visionary budget not only addresses immediate needs but also sets a robust framework for long-term prosperity by prioritizing infrastructure development, technological innovation, and social welfare.

The budget is inclusive, featuring special provisions for youth, women, farmers, traders, laborers, and employed individuals. Taram emphasized that this focus would accelerate the development of border villages, countering the migration issues that threaten the legitimacy of land near the McMahon Line. The Vibrant Village scheme, formerly known as the Border Area Development Program, aims to transform these initial villages and particularly benefit the Koloriang constituency.

Recent infrastructure improvements, such as the completion of the trans-highway from Itanagar to Koloriang, have significantly reduced travel time and unlocked tourism potential. Tourists are now witnessing snowfall at Lurugh Pass and discovering the hidden beauty of the region.

Taram lauded Pema Khandu's eight-year tenure as Chief Minister, noting significant advancements in air, road, and rail connectivity. He highlighted major projects like trans-highways, airports, PMGSY roads, 4G network connectivity in remote border towns, and improved school and medical infrastructure. Taram expressed confidence that the robust, youth-focused budget would create a "Vikshit Arunachal," with youth as the primary beneficiaries, receiving unprecedented opportunities for skill development and job creation.
