Koloriang MLA and Advisor to the PHED Minister, Pani Taram, coordinated the airlifting of two critically injured girls to Naharlagun for urgent medical care. The rescue operation took place amid the Longte Festival celebrations in the remote Kurung Kumey district, which borders China.
The two girls, belonging to the local Nyishi community (Riya and Nangram), met with a serious accident while riding a scooty. With Koloriang lacking specialist medical facilities, and considering the urgency of their condition, MLA Taram, in coordination with Deputy Commissioner Vishakha Yadav (IAS), arranged a special helicopter from Dibrugarh to evacuate the patients.
Despite challenging weather conditions and a difficult terrain, the helicopter successfully reached Koloriang, with pilots noting the route as one of the most demanding. The critically injured girls were promptly flown to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), Naharlagun, for advanced treatment.
The timely intervention by MLA Pani Taram and DC Vishakha Yadav has drawn widespread praise from local residents, who lauded their dedication to public service even while attending the Longte Festival.
