Arunachal MLA slams delay in Rs 28 crore Naharlagun market project, sets January 2025 deadline

Arunachal Pradesh MLA Techi Kaso has strongly condemned the prolonged delay in constructing a crucial Rs 28 crore multipurpose vendors market in Naharlagun, highlighting significant concerns about project management and contractor performance.

The market project, executed by Gujarat-based TAS Foundries Pvt Ltd, has languished well beyond its March 2024 completion deadline, with only 60-70% of the work accomplished. Kaso criticised the contractor's sluggish progress, emphasising the urgent needs of local vendors who lost their shops in a devastating 2022 fire.

"The Gujarat-based agency has comprehensively failed to meet expectations," Kaso told India Today NE. "Their work pace is unacceptable, especially considering the full support they've received from local authorities."

Key Project Details:

Location: Naharlagun's previous daily market site

Total Investment: Rs 28 crore

Current Completion Status: 60-70%

Projected Capacity: 600 vendor units across three floors

Speaking with India Today NE, Kaso voiced his frustration over the negligent approach of companies from other states, accusing them of failing to complete projects on time and often abandoning them midway. "This lackadaisical attitude is unacceptable. Projects that should have been completed long ago are still dragging on," he remarked.

He emphasised the urgency of the situation, stating, "We have given the representatives of these companies a final deadline until January 2025. If the market is not fully completed and handed over by then, we will be compelled to take strict action."

Outlining his vision for the project, Kaso shared, "Once this market is completed, I plan to secure additional funds to expand it into a G3 or G4 structure. Proper parking facilities on the ground floor will also be included to address the current congestion."

He highlighted the benefits of the proposed upgrades, saying, "The expanded market will house 600 units for vendors across three floors, ensuring an enhanced shopping experience. Safety measures such as fire extinguishers and other precautions will also be in place to make it secure for everyone."
