Arunachal prepares for 2nd Miss Universe edition, Tawang likely host

Arunachal Pradesh is preparing for the second edition of Miss Universe Arunachal Pradesh, with Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs and Social Justice, Kento Jini, hinting at Tawang as the possible host city.

The announcement came as he welcomed and felicitated Miss Universe 2024, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, on her arrival in India at New Delhi. The Danish model and beauty pageant winner was received at an event alongside Lekang MLA Likha Soni and Miss Universe Arunachal State Director Takam Anju.

Highlighting the significance of beauty pageants, Minister Jini spoke about their impact on promoting Arunachal Pradesh and other northeastern states. He emphasised the region’s potential in tourism, fashion, and showcasing the rich tribal heritage of the Northeast.

The minister’s remarks suggested that Tawang could be the next venue for hosting the prestigious state-level beauty competition.

The first edition of the event saw Thupten Lhamu from Tawang crowned as Miss Universe Arunachal Pradesh 2024. State Director Takam Anju shared insights about the upcoming second edition, stating that the competition will expand from the top 25 finalists to the top 40.

National experts will be brought in to train contestants, aiming to enhance their confidence and prepare them for larger platforms. This year’s finale will feature a special jury member—Miss Universe India—who has previously represented the country on the international stage. Anju expressed gratitude to Minister Jini for his support, noting that the event’s scale will be bigger than before.

Miss Universe Victoria Kjaer Theilvig, addressing the media, expressed her appreciation for the warm reception in India. She thanked the Miss Universe India organisation for arranging her visit and emphasised the importance of international pageants in empowering women across the country. Her visit aims to inspire young women to step onto global beauty platforms, furthering opportunities for aspirants in India’s fashion and modelling industries.
