Arunachal Pradesh celebrated World Tourism Day with a grand event at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Hall, where Chief Minister Pema Khandu graced the occasion as the chief guest. The celebration, themed “Tourism and Peace,” marked a significant milestone for the state, which has witnessed over 10 lakh domestic tourists this year.
Accompanied by Tourism Minister Pasang Dorjee Sona, Anini MLA and advisor to the tourism minister Mope Mihu, and Secretary of Tourism Swapnil M Naik IAS, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of tourism in fostering connections and peace among people across borders. The state plans to launch a comprehensive 360-degree media campaign to further promote its tourism potential.
During the event, CM Khandu distributed awards in various categories, recognizing outstanding contributions to the tourism sector. Dorjeeling village in Shi Yomi district was awarded the title of Best Rural Tourism Village, while Rei Homestay in West Siang district received the Best Homestay award. Other notable awards included Chumi Gyatse Waterfall in Tawang as the Best Tourist Destination and Kabak Yano, a renowned mountaineer, as the Best Tourism Promoter.
Established by the United Nations in 1980, World Tourism Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of tourism in fostering global connections. The tradition of selecting a host country to emphasize tourism's significance began in 1997 with the UNWTO. Arunachal Pradesh's focus on promoting its diverse tourism offerings signals a promising future for the state's tourism industry.
