Kiren Rijiju on ex-Arunachal Pradesh MLA killing: Nobody will be spared

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju today said that the government is taking the matter of the murder of former  MLA Yumsem Matey very seriously and none of the culprits would be spared. 

Speaking to media today in Itanagar, Rijiju said that the matter would be dealt with an iron hand, and also said that central forces would be deployed in the area to tackle the menace of militants. 

"Even now we are taking Matey's murder seriously. I have talked with the CM also. If need be we will deploy central forces in the area and help the state government in every possible way. We need the help of the local government to carry out operations, because when operation is undertaken, then it affects the local populace too. So army operation can happen only after a lot of planning, But we have taken this murder quite seriously. Nobody will be spared. All the culprits will face strict action. But we will not carry out action after declaring it. Earlier we have arrested people in other cases. When someone runs off to foreign countries then it becomes an issue for us. We never compromise on security and safety," said Rijiju. 

Rijiju's statement comes in a day after the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) took out a rally in Itanagar demanding action the matter of the killing of the ex-MLA. 

Prior to that, the Arunachal Pradesh government made a decisive move to transfer the murder case of former MLA Yumsen Matey to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). 

Former MLA Yumsen Matey from Arunachal Pradesh's Khonsa West constituency was brutally assassinated close to the Indo-Myanmar border in Tirap district. The incident occurred on December 16 when Yumsen Matey was reportedly abducted from a social function in Raho village in Lazu circle. The assailants then transported him to the border area, where he faced a merciless demise at the hands of suspected militants.

Yumsen Matey, a prominent local figure who had previously served as a government servant, was elected from the Khonsa West seat in 2009 on a Congress ticket before switching allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2015. His untimely demise has not only left a void in the political landscape of Arunachal Pradesh but has also raised serious concerns about the safety and security in the region.
