PPA MLA focuses on resolving Assam-Arunachal border dispute, raises locals' concerns

Nabam Vivek, the newly elected legislator from the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA), has pledged to prioritize resolving the longstanding border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh in his Doimukh constituency. In a recent interaction with the media, Vivek outlined his plans and initiatives aimed at addressing the border issues effectively.

Vivek emphasized the importance of engaging with the local communities and organizations directly affected by the border dispute. He stated, “Today, I held a meeting with the border people. I called the office bearers of the Border People Forum in Papum Pare district and received updates on the steps taken so far by the organization for the border people. Their feedback is crucial for us to work further and address the concerns of the border communities.”

Despite previous agreements between the governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to resolve the border issues, certain villages under the Doimukh assembly segment continue to express strong objections to the boundary demarcation. Vivek acknowledged these challenges and expressed his commitment to finding a consensus among the villagers of both states to draw the boundary line effectively.

“I have requested Chief Minister Pema Khandu to reconstitute the regional committee immediately so that we can work towards achieving a consensus between the villagers of both states and finalize the boundary demarcation,” Vivek stated. He also sought the Chief Minister’s mentorship and emphasized the importance of working collaboratively as a team to resolve the border issues.

Acknowledging the urgency of the matter, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has directed immediate action on the border-related issues, said Vivek.
