A 168-member strong contingent from West Siang district, including 48 female athletes, is en route to the state capital Itanagar to participate in the 4th edition of the Arunachal State Games, scheduled to take place from April 18 to 22 at multiple venues across the region.
The State Games 2025 will feature competitions in 22 sporting disciplines, including archery, athletics, arm-wrestling, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, curling, football, hockey, judo, karate, kho-kho, pencak silat, skating, table tennis, taekwondo, tug of war, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, and wushu. Events will be hosted across the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR), Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), and the Golden Jubilee Outdoor Stadium at Yupia.
Speaking to India Today, Nyatum Bagra, President of the West Siang Olympic Association, expressed pride in the district's athletes. He highlighted that despite limited infrastructure and a shortage of professional coaches, West Siang had secured the second runner-up position in the Sansad Khel Spardha 2023. With strengthened determination, the district now aims to claim the top spot in this year's State Games.
To ensure smooth coordination and operations throughout the event, a high-level preparatory meeting was recently chaired by Deputy Commissioner Jiken Bomjen, along with Superintendent of Police Taru Gusar and Sports Director Tadar Appa.
The five-day event is expected to witness enthusiastic participation from across the state, celebrating sportsmanship and nurturing talent from grassroots to competitive levels.
