Ziro Festival of Music boosts tourism in Arunachal Pradesh by 25-30 per cent

The recently concluded Ziro Festival of Music (ZFM) in Arunachal Pradesh has significantly boosted the region’s tourism sector, recording a 25-30% increase in tourist footfall this year, according to H.P. Vivek, Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri.

Known for its unique blend of Apatani culture, music, and natural beauty, the festival has drawn both domestic and international tourists, despite high entry fees exceeding ₹4,000 per day.

ZFM has proven to be a major contributor to the state's tourism, coinciding with the harvest season, which showcases the lush green paddy fields of Ziro Valley.

DC Vivek also emphasized strict measures against drug use during the festival, ensuring a drug-free environment. Additionally, the administration is pushing for environmental sustainability through a "Plastic Free Ziro" initiative.

This project, supported by Power Grid Corporation and the Arunachal State Rural Livelihoods Mission (ARSLM), focuses on empowering local Self Help Groups (SHGs) by providing funding for initiatives like stitching traditional garments and promoting the use of handmade cloth bags. Penalties will be imposed on traders using single-use plastics.

ZFM continues to serve as a cultural and tourism game-changer, positioning Ziro Valley prominently on India’s tourism map.
