Assam Flood | 150 Stranded Villagers Rescued From Baksa’s Balipur Charflood

Guwahati, July 14, 2019:

The flood situation in Assam continued to worsen enrolling 25 districts under its wrath.

The Beki River in Baksa district has flown above the danger level due to incessant rains and affected the Char region of Balipur. Following which the Deputy Commissioner of the district took the help of the unit of Indian Army to carry out the rescue operation and evacuate the stranded villagers as the situation is worsening.

Troops of Indian Army immediately sprung into action.

The Army column along with SDRF and civil administration evacuated the stranded villagers and shifted them to flood relief shelters in Udalguri.

Approx 150 villagers were rescued from the Balipur Char area including 55 women, 40 men, 25 elderly and 30 children.

It is to be mentioned that the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has revealed that as of 13 July 2019, a total 2,168 number of villages in 80 revenue circles of 25 districts, i.e, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Sonitpur, Darrang, Baksa, Barpeta, Nalbari, Chirang, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Majuli, Jorhat, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, West Karbi Anglong, Kamrup, Cachar and Dhubri districts of Assam have been affected in the Second wave of flood.
