Assam: Ajmal Institute’s signboard removed, INSIDENE impact

The Dhubri district authorities have removed a signboard of proposed Ajmal Industrial Training Institute, erected at the Archaeological Idgah under the Circle Office (Revenue, Dhubri) Alamganj part-9.

The action of the authorities came barely hours after INSIDENE had done a story on Thursday on the Deshi Yuva Parishad (DYP), an organisation that had petitioned Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal alleging that Lok Sabha member from Dhubri, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, had encroached upon land at the historic idgah by using his political power.

“Yes, the signboard has been removed from the site. It was removed on Thursday evening,” circle officer Joy Sharma told INSIDENE.

“The plot, measuring 28 bighas, is a historical land and it involves the sentiments of the locals. Badruddin Ajmal encroached upon the land by using his political power. I, therefore, request your honour to be kind enough to consider the aforesaid facts and circumstances and take immediate necessary action,” DYP president Zahangir Hussain Ahmed had written in a letter to the Chief Minister.

Back in 2015, the Ajmal Foundation had written to the office of the circle officer seeking 11 bighas of land of the idgah for the construction of the institute.

“They had written to the circle office in 2015 seeking permission for the construction of the institute. We then forwarded their letter to the office of the deputy commissioner, Dhubri. We learnt that there has not been any response from the office of the DC,” Sharma had said on Thursday.
