A Centre of Excellence in Nanotechnology (CoEN) was formally opened at Assam down town University on the 16th of September 2020. The opening of the centre was a part of the event titled Technogracias, organized by the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.
It was formally opened by Dr. Arup Kumar Misra, Director of Assam Science Technology and Environment Council in presence of the Vice Chancellor of Assam down town University Prof. N. C. Talukdar and the Deans of the different Faculty of Studies. Both Dr. Misra and Prof. Talukdar lauded the efforts of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology in setting up of the CoEN. Prof. Sunandan Baruah, Dean of Engineering and Technology and also the founder Director of the CoEN informed that apart from research in Applied Nanotechnology, the CoEN will also concentrate in knowledge dissemination through workshops and training programs and the development of Nanotechnology based products.
The CoEN will also put in efforts to incubate startups with low cost Nanotechnology based products. The CoEN will operate on a unique concept which Prof. Baruah described as POMEGRENATE or Poor Men’s Green Nanotechnology.
