Guwahati, March 17, 2019:

A rail blockade was organized at Lanka in Hojai district on Sunday by the public along with many organizations. The public of Lanka began the blockade early in the morning at 7 am.

This was done in protest because many trains, including the Avadh Assam Express not stopping at the Lanka station despite continued complaints from the public. But despite complaints, concerned authorities had not taken any steps to help the people in this regard.

The rail blockade ended after authorities visited the spot and give written assurance to the protestors that two trains, the Avadh Assam Express, and Kanchenjunga Express, will stop at the station.

It is to be mentioned that because of this blockade, many trains were stranded at stations like Lumding, Diphu, Sapormukh and Hojai and the passengers of the trains were inconvenienced.
