The employees and workers of Cachar Paper Mill today demanded payment of wages pending for the last 16 months. Cachar Paper Mill, a unit of the state-owned Hindustan Paper Corporation has been inactive since 2015. The employees and workers are on the threshold of starvation. The government is yet to release the allowances of 16 months as against the wages of three months that has been released.

The workers stated that in a meeting with the chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal and the minister of transport and commerce, Chandra Mohan Patowary, they have been assured of the revival of the mill with a hint of Expression Of Interest (EOI). The workers stated that their children have been forced to discontinue their studies owing to the financial paucity in the family. They said that their urges are falling on to the deaf ears as no heed has been paid to their plight so far.

The workers have urged the government to rise from their present slumber and take initiatives and to rescue them from their present state.
