Out of the 19,06,657 names excluded in NRC Final Draft in Assam, more than one lakh names belong to members of the Gorkha community.
The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha, however, feels that Gorkhas of Assam have been able to reduce the number of exclusions after repeated assertion with appropriate authority time and again.
Nityananda Upadhyay, president of Assam State Committee, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha (BGP) said, " Gorkhas covered lots of grounds with numbers of exclusion in the final list, however we waiting for data to reach us in 2-3 days. As on date, the number of rejected persons is expected to be more than 1 lakh individuals in the Final Draft."
Nanda Kirati Dewan, National Secretary ( Youth Affairs) Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha said, "Gorkhas showed patience through out the upgradation process and today ,we would like to state with respect to NRC results released today has given a ray of hope that if asserted properly bonafide Indian citizen won't be left out as the numbers of exclusion from Final Draft and Additional Exclusion has come down, however, names rejected this time are mostly D Voters Gorkhas which constitute around 20,000 D Voter cases and few surname mismatch. As such reject numbers will be more than 1 lakhs figure which can be challenged in FT.
'For left out cases, the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha will engage legal and paralegal community members who have been trained to fight FT cases with proper assertion with a common approach', added Nanda Kirati Dewan, on being questioned what would be Gorkhas approach in case of exclusions.
National Working President, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha , Dr. Munish Tamang said , "Sadly, freedom fighter and founding member of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, Chabilal Upadhyay's granddaughter, Smt. Manju Devi's name has been left out along with that of her 2 children, despite several presentations that her 'D' is marked arbitrarily without any case reference in FT or with Border Police."
On being asked what would BGP do now, Dr. Tamang added, "Excluded Gorkhas are requested to get in touch with Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangha. It is a matter of great concern that descendants of freedom fighters and martyrs too have been excluded. The Government of Assam, and it's District Administration including all DEOs, Border Police and NRC authority should be ensure such cases are addressed through a special mechanism as suggested previously to NRC Authorities, ECI and Government of Assam."
