Munin Baruah, popularly known as Bhaimon Da passed away at his residence at Kahilipara, Guwahati. The ailing director who was under treatment for the past several days breathed his last at 1.55 am today.
Munin Baruah was not only a famous name in the Assamese cultural world, but also the man behind the revival of Assamese film industry. The prolific director has many Assamese blockbusters to his credit which includes movies like Pita Putra, Hiya Diya Niya, Nayak, Dinabandhu, Daag, Ramdhedhenu etc.
Munin Baruah debuted his career as a director with his movie Pratima in the year 1987.The director was also accorded with many laurels during his lifetime. He was awarded the State Best Director for his film Nayak. Dinabandhu own him the National Film Award as the best feature film in Assamese. He was affiliated with the Life Time Achievement Award in Prag Cine Awards in the year 2017.
His funeral will take place today at 3 PM in Navagraha crematorium .The director's final rites will be performed by his son Manas Baruah, along with Jatin Baruah and Zubeen Garg. The entire state mourns the death of this eye opener. With his death, Assam has lost one of her great sons.
