Nagaon, January 22, 2020:

A new regional party called ‘Asom Gana Mancha’ has been birthed in the state of Assam with the aim of safeguarding the rights of the indigenous people amid the rising tensions over the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Renowned Advocate Simanta Kumar Dutta, addressing a press conference in Nagaon, announced the formation of the new party. He informed that ‘Asom Gana Mancha’ would be contesting in the 2021 elections to ensure that the indigenous people’s rights and interests are protected and prioritized.

It needs mention here that the new party has come into formation amid speculations of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) forming a new regional party. While the clamor over the CAA continues to rise, the Asom Gana Mancha’s formation has brought in a brand new party to compete with the already existing ones.
