Guwahati, October 30, 2018:

Today is October 30, 2018 and exactly 10 years back, Assam witnessed the most horrifying serial bomb blasts that took several innocent lives and left hundreds in a state of despair. In memory of those who lost their lives, day long mourning programmes is being observed at the places of the blast across the state today.

The bombs went off at market places, court in Guwahati city and the surrounding area of western Assam. Reports indicated as many as 18 bombs went off, taking at least 108 lives besides injuring 800 others.

The Union Minister Shakeel Ahmed than confirmed 10 blasts took place, however, reports did indicate the number could have been as high as eighteen, the biggest in Assam history.

The explosions in Guwahati ripped through Pan Bazar, Fancy Bazar and Ganeshguri, which were crowded with shoppers and office goers. Three blasts occurred in Kokrajhar, with another possible grenade explosion; one in Bongaigaon and two in Barpeta Road.

The army had received "non-specific" information on 17 September about possible strikes in Guwahati, Barpeta Road and Kokrajhar as “Attack Guwahati” from Calcutta but nothing was done to prevent such attempt by the terrorist groups.
