A woman hailing from Assam was assaulted at a Police Station in Gurgaon, Haryana.
The woman, who was working as a domestic help at DLF Phase 1 area, was accused of theft by her employers.
She was taken to the police station on Tuesday, where she was allegedly beaten up. She and her husband alleged that the police had hit her in her private parts as well.
According to her husband, Madhubala, the investigating officer, had called the 30-year-old woman to the police station. She was stripped and beaten up mercilessly with belts and sticks in one of the rooms.
He further said that the Police had compelled her to admit to the theft she had not done.
Following the incident, local residents hailing from the Northeast had staged a protest outside the office of Gurgaon Police Commissioner Mohammad Akil on Wednesday.
The Gurgaon Police officials have ordered a probe against four police officers after the protesters shared photos of the woman’s injuries. While speaking with Inside Northeast, SHO DLF-1 Gurgaon, Inspector Vishnu said, "We are investigating the allegations. As of now the police officers have been sent to police lines."
Two police officers, including the woman officer, were suspended following the incident. The accused officers are namely, SHO Sawit Kumar, ASI Madhubala, HC Anil Kumar and woman constable Kavita.
