After Golaghat, this time an Assamese-medium school in Jorhat has issued their students’ report cards from classes 1 to class 8 in the Bengali language.
At a time when the majority of the people are protesting in Assam to protect the Assamese language, report cards in the Bengali language have left the people and the authorities bewildered.
The report cards issued by State Council of Educational Research and Training, Kahilipara, was distributed in No. 133 Bangalpukhuri Adarsh Vidyalaya, a government school in Jorhat.
Interestingly, this blunder has come in the wake of the Assam Government’s assertion that the Assamese would soon be accorded the status of ‘official language’.

Responding to the blunder, member of Veer Lachit Sena’s Jorhat unit said, “This has come up at a time when we are facing threat to our ‘jati’ (nationality), ‘mati’ (land), and ‘bheti’ (foundation).
He said, “This is alarming for all of us as this has happened in an Assamese medium government school.”
Aditya appealed to the Asom Sahitya Sabha and other literary bodies to take action against the same.
On the other hand, AJYCP representative from Jorhat also condemned the incident and said, “Despite a prominent education department in the state, how can such blunder be reported.”
It may be mentioned here that earlier, a Government school in Golaghat made headlines when it issued report cards in the Bengali language.
