GUWAHATI: Bubu Konwar (43), a notorious Assamese criminal, was killed in an exchange of fire with Sivasagar Police on Wednesday at Gelakey in Sivasagar district.
The incident took place after Konwar who was on a scooter with his companion attempted to flee a police checkpoint and he targeted the police team.
He was taken to Geleky Civil Hospital after he sustained injuries, however, he was declared dead at the hospital.

"One veteran criminal Bubu Konwar has been grievously injured in the exchange of fire with ">@SivasagarPol at Geleky, Sibsagar when he targeted the police team. Has been taken to hospital. One pistol has been recovered from his possession,"Assam DGP GP Singh tweeted.
Earlier this year in March, Bubu Konwar was arrested in Jorhat and 35 grams of suspected brown sugar were recovered from his possession but later he was released on bail.
Bubu Konwar, Assam's most notorious criminal was accused of committing drug trafficking, many car thefts, extortion, and kidnapping for ransom, among other crimes.
According to police records, Kunwor was involved in 16 crimes under the Arms Act, seven murder cases, and 27 cases of car theft.
He also killed 42 people over the years and was responsible for numerous high-profile killings in the state.
He had 50 cases filed against him in various districts around the state.
