THURIBARI: Moments after the declaration of the election dates in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), Assam Minister and BJP's point-man in the Northeast Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the election in the Council will be won by the BJP and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) with its "outdated" nagol (plough) symbol shall be relegated to a museum.
Addressing supporters in Chirang during a massive rally, Sarma said, "This time during the Assembly elections, you should vote for the BJP candidate from Bijni and send him/her to Dispur."

Sarma said that the BTC region should be added to the BJP-led Governments in Dispur and Delhi, which, in turn, shall usher in development and change in the Bodo-dominated region in the State.
The senior BJP leader also reminded the Chirang-residents about the Government's 'Arunodoi' scheme and said that the scheme will only be launched in the BTC after the elections, possibly in January. This, he said, is to ensure that the funds do not go into the pockets of the corrupt officials of the council.
Once again, Sarma launched into a tirade against the Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People's Front (BPF) and its leaders, and charged that the Rs. 15 crores sanctioned by the Assam Govt to hold the Dwijing festival was spent on gambling and alcohol. "We do not want gambling and alcohol parties -- what we want is change," said Sarma.
Sarma further claimed that youths of BTC do not have a proper channel or route to get jobs and Government posts are filled based on a list of names carried around by the former Chief Hagrama in his pocket.

"In the BTC, people have complained that even the old people and widows have to pay sums of money to receive their deserved pensions. What can be more embarrassing than that? What is this Government doing?", Sarma asked.
Reacting to Hagrama Mohilary and other BPF leaders' opposition to his visit, Sarma said, "BTC does not belong to Hagrama. It belongs to India, it belongs to Assam," said Sarma.
The elections in the 40-member Council shall be held in two phases -- in December 7 and 10.
